On 1 March 1954, because Greece had begun to stabilise its economy, the last three zeroes were removed from all banknotes. The new issue used the previous banknote designs but with the words ΝΕΑ ΕΚΔΟΣΙΣ (NEW ISSUE) printed in the circle on the right – and the new values and dates. This series only circulated a short time before being replaced with new designs. This note replaced the 10,000 drachmae note dated 21 December 1947 (Pick182; Pitidis 166a). It is dated 15 January 1954 but entered circulation a few months later. |
