These are treasury or promissory notes which were issued by the representatives of the Greek liberation government to alleviate the shortage of cash after the Germans departed. They were issued by the Kerkyra (Corfu) branch of the Bank of Greece under government decree 24 of 17 October 1944 and were backed by a pledge of the Bank of Greece that they could be exchanged for banknotes. |
