This series of notes was in circulation from 15th Sep. 1943 alongside then current Italian notes until 30th Nov 1943 and thereafter until the issue of the Libyan Pound to replace it on 24th Mar 1952. The Military Authority Lira notes were demonetised and ceased to have exchange value 3 months later on 24th Jun 1952. They were exchangeable at the rate of 480 to 1 Libyan Pound, equal to £1 Sterling at that time, making the smallest note, the 1 Lira, worth one half of a British Penny. |
