This example sporting interesting historical graffiti of British POW captured in fierce fighting starting January 1944 in Maungdaw, western Burma near present day Bangladesh border. L.A.C Shields originated from the Northumberland former colliery town of Bishop Auckland in Co. Durham. Bishop Auckland's claim to fame is that among other events it had a station on the world's first railway line and is Stan Laurel, of famous comedy duo Laurel & Hardy, childhood home. A VC awardee and female serial killer were also born and raised there. |
